Sourced through our partners, Red Fox, this naturally processed coffee from Burundi pops with juicy orange and yellow fruit - think passionfruit, mango, and pineapple - and is balanced with a brown sugar sweetness. This coffee comes from the Ruvumu community near Kayanza, a hot and dry region in northern Burundi. Reaching the farms requires a drive through the region's rolling hills and dirt roads, with many producers still delivering their coffee to the nearby Umoco washing station by foot, bicycle, or motorcycle. Coffee is grown between 1,800 and 2,200 meters above sea level in rich red clay soils near Kibira National Forest. At Umoco—whose name means 'light' in Kirundi—the coffee is carefully processed through a natural fermentation and drying program, including several weeks on traditional African raised beds.
Heart it if you’d brew it, or pass.
Burundi Ruvumu Natural is a medium-acidity coffee from Kayanza, Burundi. Acidity here is a gentle brightness, not sourness. The pineapple note is part of that brightness.
Burundi Ruvumu Natural breaks down as fruity and chocolate.
Fruity×3
passionfruit, mango, pineapple
Ripe fruit. Berries and stone fruit taste juicy and sweet, not sharp.
Chocolate×1
brown sugar
Cocoa sweetness. It tastes round and familiar, especially as the cup cools.
