We are excited to bring back this coffee from the Los Dos Socios farm for the fourth year now! Coffee was introduced to Guatemala as a crop in the mid-1800's. At the time, the government of Guatemala encouraged agriculture - and coffee, in particular. What had previously been the main export crop, indigo, had failed and the government encouraged replacing it with coffee production. From there, Guatemala quickly grew to become one of the top five coffee producers in the world, although their place has since waned as coffee production has grown elsewhere. The country has several coffee growing regions, one of which is the highly-prized Huehuetenango region, which is known for full-bodied coffees that tend to be more fruit-forward than other regions. It is in this region that this offering, from the Los Dos Socios farm, was grown. The farmer, Don Concepción Villatoro Matias, purchased the farm in 1990, and since then it has been used for planting and harvesting coffee. Over time, Concepción bought other small parcels, planting them with Bourbon and Caturra varieties beneath the Graviola and Chalum shade trees. The name 'Los Dos Socios', or the two associates, refers to his relationship with God as the other associate supporting his farm. We find this coffee to be rich and silky. Look for flavors of milk chocolate, tangerine, cherry, candied walnut, and nougat. This is an excellent offering that we are proud to bring back for another year!
Heart it if you’d brew it, or pass.
Guatemala Los Dos Socios is a medium-acidity coffee from Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Acidity here is a gentle brightness, not sourness.
Guatemala Los Dos Socios breaks down as fruity, citrus, chocolate, caramel and nutty.
Fruity×1
cherry
Ripe fruit. Berries and stone fruit taste juicy and sweet, not sharp.
Citrus×1
tangerine
A bright, zesty edge. Lemon, orange, or grapefruit show up as sparkle, not sour coffee.
Chocolate×1
chocolate
Cocoa sweetness. It tastes round and familiar, especially as the cup cools.
Caramel×1
nougat
Cooked sugar. Toffee, honey, or maple sit with the roast instead of tasting like fruit.
Nutty×1
candied walnut
Toasted nuts. Almond or hazelnut tastes warm and dry, without the juiciness of fruit.
