We have been purchasing coffee from the Martinez family and their partner farmers for many years. Their operations in Guatemala are unrivaled as third-generation coffee farmers. The La Alma lot is a blend of many small farmers' coffees from around the Huehuetenango growing region. Individual smallholder farms are perched on mountainsides between 1500 and 2100 meters above sea level and grow mostly Caturra and Bourbon varieties. This coffee takes the place of our beloved Todos Santos and features notes of sugar and spice, almond, milk chocolate, vanilla, red stone fruit, and berries.
Heart it if you’d brew it, or pass.
Guatemala La Alma is a medium-acidity coffee from Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Acidity here is a gentle brightness, not sourness. The red stone fruit note is part of that brightness.
Guatemala La Alma breaks down as fruity, chocolate, nutty, spice and sweet.
Fruity×2
red stone fruit, berries
Ripe fruit. Berries and stone fruit taste juicy and sweet, not sharp.
Chocolate×1
milk chocolate
Cocoa sweetness. It tastes round and familiar, especially as the cup cools.
Nutty×1
almond
Toasted nuts. Almond or hazelnut tastes warm and dry, without the juiciness of fruit.
Spice×1
spice
Warm baking spice. Cinnamon, clove, or pepper adds a tingle, not heat.
Sweet×2
sugar, vanilla
Dessert sweetness. Vanilla, cream, or cookie reads as sugar rather than fruit.
